  3. I like Andrew's ideas, very green (assuming you wouldn't go for the Hummer.) Don't you have a car somewhere? If you really need it come and get it. Cars are expensive, the ones you mentioned probably about 20k or more. You might be able to get a deal on a Toyota right now :) Do you need a car, or just want a car?

  4. whoa... you have to prioritize

the price of a new sedan runs between $20,000 - $30,000.

for safely driving in the snow, the best is a 4 wheel drive car. this usually means SUVs or sport wagons (like the subaru), or you have to be proficient at putting on snow chains

for driving in the snow, the market value of the car is going to plummet a lot, because things will rust faster. and if you buy a new car, the market value drops significantly in the first two years.

if you only need a car for one more year in michigan, and of course you come back to california, i'd recommend leasing

  5. A new Subaru Impreza is going for $17,500.

    snow, check
    economical, check
    good-looking, you'll have to decide
    red, check

but you still might want to analyze whether to buy or lease
