but not today.
meet andy, the person who made me doubt the possibility that maybe not all *special* attention is good.
it started out fine. he was a funny and little brother-kind of adorable boy. he made me and my friends laugh. he made sure our table was clear of empty dishes and brought warm water for us to drink. he made sure we were happy with our food (which by the way was awful).
then he asked if he could sing for me and amy.
for valentine's day, he said. he only needed two minutes. we laughed and said, you can have five minutes if you want
...because we thought he was joking.
well, the long story short, amy and i were on the street corner, just right outside the restaurant, listening to him sing ALL THREE VERSES + CHORUS of a song that had "rose" in the title.
i mean, he was singing. people were passing by us as he was passionately professing his love through the song, while amy and i stood on the street, trying to make sense of what was happening.
how did we end up here?
why are we listening to this awful song?
didn't he say that he sang well?
what is going through his mind?
does he realize that he looks ridiculous?
apparently, he graduated from cornell last year and is USC med school-bound this Sept. also, he has a gf who will join him in cali because she will start at the USC dentistry school.
so really, what was going through his mind? i mean, did he just wake up this morning and decide that he will sing for someone--no matter what?
either it's a "crap, i'm going to med school and my life will be endless years of studying so i better do crazy things now"-type of a behavior or the cold weather is just making people insane.
if it's the latter, let's hope that i don't end up like that.
Strange indeed. Perhaps you somehow attract wackos, or maybe you and Amy drove him insane. Poor guy. Were you really thinking all those things? I would just be thinking,"uh, excuse me, but we have to go now."
ReplyDeleteI really was thinking that way! I mean, he sang for a long time. We definitely had the time to think.
